Christmas celebrations and contests for rural Nigerian children

On 23 December 2023, Chess in Slums held a heartwarming Christmas celebration for 200 Nigerian kids in Mushin, Lagos.

Children enjoyed many mental and physical contests, including chess, mental maths, a spelling bee, basketball, and life-size board games—all rewarding different kinds of excellence.

We provided a full-year tuition for the winners of each competition. Participants who reached the second and third places received 50,000 naira and 20,000 naira cash prizes, respectively.

It wouldn't be a Christmas celebration without unconditional gifts, so we provided a bag full of school and hobby supplies for every participant, regardless of performance.

Education and development is our primary focus. That's why we are so grateful to Chess in Slums for their cooperation with us.
